Amtrak runs thru our region too, with daily connecting service. Syracuse boasts an International Airport (Hancock) with Ithaca, Albany & Rochester airports under a two (2) hour drive. Glimmerglass Opera in nearby Cooperstown, Skaneateles Music Festival, New York State Blues Festival, Music/Performing Arts at Nelson Odeon, Earlville Opera House....Museums include the Arkell, Everson (I.M. Pei designed), Herbert Johnson, Fenimore Art Museum and the Munson-Williams-Proctor-Arts-Institute. Smaller, local museums capture the history of the development of New York State including the Erie Canal Museum, The Farmers Museum and the Salt Museum. Very important social history is retold at the Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark, The National Abolitition Hall of Fame and Museum and the Harriet Tubman Center among so many others. Farm-to-table has been happening here even before it had a name! Community Supported Agricultural shares are widely available (visit Open Farm Day in July to tour them all). Farmers markets can be found every day of the week - weekends during the winter. Coffee roasting, vineyards, hops-to-beer, distilleries, butter & cheese, award-winning breads and barbecue are all found here. Destination dining and favorite neighborhood gatherings are enjoyed.

Our area is home to several private and public colleges - Colgate, Hamilton, Cazenovia, LeMoyne, Syracuse, Cornell, Utica, Hobart and Hartwick; SUNY's Morrisville, Delhi, Cobleskill, Cortland, SUNY ESF, and Mohawk Valley and Onondaga Community Colleges- all offering community programs and campus access.

Top employers include Crouse and St. Joseph's Hospitals, Bassett and Loretto Health Networks, National Grid, Lockheed Martin, Wegmans Food Markets, Spectrum, Syracuse VA System, Welch Allyn, Verizon, and Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Located in Utica, the Mohawk Valley Health Network has started construction on a 373 bed, state-of-the-art hospital located in downtown.
